This Saturday is the last day of February and LGBT History Month 2009. There will be two events on Saturday, the Gay Times in the Past Talk at Staircase House, and the Finale in the Arden Arms. Gillian Sherwood from Stockport Museums came in to talk about the Gay Times in the Past Talk. Although she didn’t give too much away on our show, it’s sure to be very interesting, with details of local LGBT history.

Feb 2009 - LGBT History Month 2009 - Valentine's Heritage Walk

As part of LGBT History Month, the PLUS Exercise Group took a stroll through Stockport’s gay past on Valentine’s Day, with a walk around pubs previously frequented by LGBT people. From the Duke of Clarence, which was demolished to make way for the motorway; Cheeky’s, which controversially had a bare bottom as a sign; Egerton Arms, which has some stories from the Stockport Sisters; up to the present day and the Arden Arms. Walk leader Andy Jones provides details of these and more.
