May 2013 - That Is All You Need To Know

2 May 2013 by Pure Radio

From tonight until Sunday, the Lowry theatre will be hosting That Is All You Need To Know.

It’s a play about some of the people that helped us win the Second World War.

One of those was mathematician Alan Turing, whose contribution was invaluable.

Sadly, he took his own life in Wilmslow at the age of 41, after being persecuted for his homosexuality.

Under the Rainbow spoke to Chris Bone, who takes the role of Alan in this production.

30 January 2013 by Pure Radio

Shropshire based acoustical folky trio Whalebone were the first Roots & Fusion Stockport Session of 2013.

We recorded them on a busy Friday afternoon in The Tea Rooms in Heaton Chapel, where many people were surprised and pleased at the impromptu soundtrack to their lunches.

The instrumental trio of two acoustic guitars and a fiddle played a six track session featuring a mix of their own tunes, folk standards and a cover of a very well known rock classic…

1) Hooty Mullock
2) Wildcat
3) Sweet Child O’Mine
4) Herman The Carpenter
5) Wenlock Hare
6) Two Wild Women

Chickenbone John at Stockport's Air Raid Shelters

20 June 2012 by Pure Radio

Birmingham based player, maker and advocator of Cigar Box Guitars, Chickenbone John, played a session in the tunnels of Stockport’s Air Raid Shelters for Roots & Fusion.

As well as some slide blues, he also played a couple of well chosen cover versions – Tom Waits’ Down In The Hole and Warren Zevon’s Werewolves Of London.

Rick then had a chat with him about his passion for the Cigar Box Guitar and about the annual Boxstock Festival, which this year is at the Band On The Wall in September.
