Publishers Penguin Random House have created a new book festival – Penguin Pride.

It celebrates books by lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans authors. With reading lists and interactive discussions, it hopes to introduce readers to new voices, and inspire the next generation of writers.

Under the Rainbow has been speaking to Zainab Juma, who is the Creative Manager for the Penguin Brand.

She said her favourite LGBT authors were James Baldwin and Stockport’s Christopher Isherwood.

Nov 2013 - Community Book of Remembrance

Yesterday was Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s a time to remember those lost to transphobia.

There’ll be a candlelit vigil on Sunday in Manchester, and a opportunity to sign of the Community Book of Remembrance.

Andrew CJ Smith, also known as Dissolved Boy, is a local musician and writer who has written a book.

It’s inspired by his life experiences and problems around adoption, bullying, sexuality and addiction.

Under the Rainbow heard how he’s helping turn his book into a stage play.
