On 7 February 2012 the fifth Proud of Stockport awards were held at Stockport Town Hall ballroom to honour some of the Borough’s unsung heroes.

Pure’s Paul Holloway caught up with host broadcaster Gordon Burns, Leader of Stockport Council Dave Goddard, County boss James Gannon and some of the winners including;

Jackie Wood from Reddish charity Arc (Life Changing Award)
Hannah Whitley (Stockport Sports Personallity of the Year)

Sarah Pritchard from Cafe Unity (Volunteering Champion)

Jake Burns From Stiff Little Fingers On Fuzzbox

Jake Burns is the front man, guitarist and creative force behind one of the finest bands to ever come out of Ireland, the mighty Sliff Little Fingers.

SLF play Manchester Academy on Friday 1st April. Jake took time out during his busy tour to tell Paul & Brinner why he wrote so many songs about the troubles in Ulster, the time he met The Clash during a riot in Belfast and what it was like working Bruce Foxton from The Jam.

Christine Burns On Under The Rainbow

Trans-activist Christine Burns MBE was recently appointed as the first trans-patron of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month. She joins other patrons such as Sir Ian McKellen and John Amaechi.

She has worked tirelessly for trans-rights over the past few decades, including working with the pressure group Press For Change www.pfc.org.uk
