This week is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.

Under the Rainbow has been speaking to Siân Lambert – the Women’s Programme Coordinator at the Lesbian and Gay Foundation.

She said that women in same-sex relationships were previously told that they weren’t at risk of cervical cancer. However, that advice has changed – and now all women are encouraged to go for screening, but some are still not aware.

May 2011 - LGF's Cervical Screening Campaign

Cervical Cancer is believed to be caused by the HPV virus. Before 2009, only women who had relationships with men were screened by the NHS. Since then, the Lesbian and Gay Foundation have been encouraging lesbian and bisexual women to get screened. The LGF now want to hear women’s opinions on their campaign. Tonight, Under the Rainbow hears from Rachel Bottomley from the LGF.
