Stockport Focus Election Night Special

Pure’s Vickie Myers and Jeff Black have a special report from Stockport Town Hall for the count at the 2012 Stockport Council elections.

One third of the council seats were being contested in all 21 wards across the borough.

Council Leader Dave Goddard lost his Offerton seat for the Liberal Democrats to Labour’s Laura Booth.

Labour also picked up the Davenport & Cale Green seat from Lib Dems, Heatons North from Conservatives and Brinnington & Central for an independent.

Liberal Democrats were cheered by taking Cheadle & Gatley seat from the Tories. They remain the largest party with 28 seats, 4 short of a majority.

Stockport Council:
Lib Dem 28, Lab 21, Con 10, Heald Green Ratepayers 3, Independent 1

Seats contested in 2012:
Lib Dem 10, Lab 8, Con 2, Heald Green Ratepayers 1
