Jan 2015 - #SoWhat Anti-Bullying Campaign

Stuart Hatton Jr is a winner of the Mr Gay UK and Mr Gay World competitions.

This week he launched an anti-bullying campaign. He’s encouraging people to tweet a photo of themselves with So What written on their hand, with the hashtag #SoWhat.

Stuart told Under the Rainbow that he hopes to help young people shrug off homophobic and other bullying that may be directed at them.

Oct 2014 - Homotopia

Since 2004, Homotopia has been an annual festival in Liverpool for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community.

Over the next few weeks there are numerous events going on – workshops, stage plays, exhibitions, and more besides.

Under the Rainbow has caught a train to the coast, and spoke to Homotopia’s Artistic Director, Gary Everett.

Oct 2014 - Campaign for Homosexual Equality

Tuesday marked fifty years since the beginning of the modern movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans equality in the UK.

In October 1964, Manchester hosted the first meeting of the North West Homosexual Law Reform Committee. This was at a time when homosexuality was still illegal.

Later the organisation was renamed to the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, and it continues to fight for LGBT rights today.

A plaque was unveiled on Manchester’s Deansgate, which marks the location of the first meeting.

May 2014 - International Day Against Homophobia Biphobia and Transphobia

This Saturday is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

People are being encouraged to fly rainbow flags and bake rainbow cakes to raise awareness. A new website will be launched where hate crimes can be reported. And there will be a candlelit vigil in Manchester city centre, to remember all those affected by hate crime.

Under the Rainbow spoke to Grahame Robertson from the Lesbian and Gay Foundation.

Jul 2013 - Homophobia in Football - John Leech

Manchester Withington MP, Liberal Democrat John Leech has recently asked questions in parliament about the problem of homophobia in football.

Last week he had a meeting with the Football Association about what they’re doing to tackle discrimination.

John Leech told Under the Rainbow that the FA are working towards making the game less hostile to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans players and fans – but there’s still more to be done.
