The wonderful Ruth Roshan returned for her third Roots & Fusion session, this time with Blackpool based Mike Rolland from Blue Pig Orchestra / Phantom Voices.

Ruth & Mike had not met before the morning of the session, so what transpired was musical magic…

With Ruth playing mandolin, Mike on guitar and both sharing vocals, they played one song of Ruth’s, two of Mike’s and a couple of traditional / well known tunes…

Inspired by a deep love of Tango, Australian Ruth has just released her third album with her group Tango Noir.

When Melbourne based mandolin player Ruth Roshan met Stopfordian, muti-instumentalist and all round nice guy Ben Walker for the first time and musical sparks flew.

It was Ruth’s second time in the R&F studio, but the first with her mandolin. She asked for a classical guitarist to assist and Ben stepped up…

They recorded one of Ruth’s tunes, one of Ben’s and a couple that they both knew.

You Know When You've Been Tangoed!

Australian born Ruth Roshan began playing mandolin aged 5. After discovering tango aged 23, she was hooked.

She writes her own material as well as covering Astor Piazzolla and Leonard Cohen with her new group, Tango Noir.

After a concert in St. Petersburg, Ruth dropped in to see Rick Stuart in the Roots n Fusion studio for a chat.

The featured album for this particular week was Donovan’s second release, Sunshine Superman from 1966.
