Cancer Doesn't Do Labels

Cancer can affect anyone, and transgender people can face additional barriers to diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Next Tuesday Wythenshawe Hospital will be hosting an event looking at what can be done to ensure transgender people are adequately served by healthcare professionals.

Under the Rainbow heard from Ben Heyworth, the founder of the LGBT Cancer Support Alliance, and Tara Hewitt, from the University Hospital South Manchester NHS Trust.

LGBT History Month - It's Queer Up North?

February is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month.

On Saturday the 6th, the Working Class Movement Library in Salford will be hosting an event about working-class men and same-sex desires in the 20th century.

It will include readings by ex-Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, and a talk by Helen Smith from the University of Lincoln. Under the Rainbow has been speaking with Helen.

Aug 2014 - University of Manchester at Pride

The Manchester Pride Big Weekend is coming up at the end of this week.

One of the highlights of the bank holiday will be the parade, which will see numerous lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans groups walk though the city centre.

Joining the procession on Saturday will be the University of Manchester.

Under the Rainbow have been speaking to Daniel Taylor – who is a member of the University’s staff LGBT network group, All Out.

As the House of Lords debates the Marriage Bill for Same-Sex Couples, Under the Rainbow is speaking to Professor Angie Wilson from the University of Manchester.

Her book, ‘Why Europe is Lesbian and Gay Friendly, and Why America Never Will Be’ puts forward the idea that how social welfare is provided has effected the way that gay and lesbian rights have evolved.
