A petition against moving Stockport’s historic market has gained more than 7,000 signatures — its organiser, Caryl Hughes, joins Simon and Jane to explain why she feels so passionately about the market. On June 4th, 1967, a Canadair C-4 Argonaut crashed on Hopes Carr in Stockport Town Centre on its final approach to Ringway airport, killing 72 of the 84 people on board. In this special programme to commemorate the 48th anniversary of the accident, Simon Kelsey is joined by Steve Morrin, author of “The Day The Sky Fell Down”, as well as a survivor of the disaster and members of the emergency services who were first on the scene.
