Publishers Penguin Random House have created a new book festival – Penguin Pride.
It celebrates books by lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans authors. With reading lists and interactive discussions, it hopes to introduce readers to new voices, and inspire the next generation of writers.
Under the Rainbow has been speaking to Zainab Juma, who is the Creative Manager for the Penguin Brand.
She said her favourite LGBT authors were James Baldwin and Stockport’s Christopher Isherwood.
People Like Us Stockport is a social group for the borough’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community.
They meet regularly in the Arden Arms pub in Stockport, as well running other events, and they even walk in the Manchester Pride parade.
Last night they held their Annual General Meeting, where they elected their committee, and planned future events. Once they’d taken care of all the business, they had a quiz.
Under the Rainbow went along to chat to the group’s Chairperson, Chris Hassall.
Thyme For Food is a cafe and bar in Edgeley. They’re organising Stockport Pride, which aims to raise awareness and acceptance of the borough’s LGBT community.
Planned for the last weekend of July, they are hoping celebrate in the biggest, loudest and most colourful way possible.

On Easter Saturday there is an afternoon of athletics, basketball, climbing, football, rugby league and more – all aimed at LGBT people who are beginners in sport.
It will be going on at Hough End Leisure Centre, which is located between Chorlton and Withington.
Under the Rainbow has been speaking to the Director of Pride Sports, Lou Englefield, who has been describing what’s planned.
