LGBT Sport Afternoon

On Easter Saturday there is an afternoon of athletics, basketball, climbing, football, rugby league and more – all aimed at LGBT people who are beginners in sport.

It will be going on at Hough End Leisure Centre, which is located between Chorlton and Withington.

Under the Rainbow has been speaking to the Director of Pride Sports, Lou Englefield, who has been describing what’s planned.

Apr 2015 - Sports May and Pride Games

Sports May is a programme of sporting activities aimed at lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.

It will give individuals a chance to get involved in new sports, or to improve their abilities. The range of events includes swimming, football, athletics, tennis, rugby, cricket and volleyball.

The month will then be followed up by a number of tournaments in June.

Under the Rainbow has been speaking to one of the volunteers helping organise the event, Phil Facey.

Mar 2015 - Village Spartans Rugby Club

The Village Spartans are a rugby club, with a team for gay and bisexual men. They train and play regularly from their home grounds in Sale.

Recently Under the Rainbow found out about a women’s team they are setting up.

This evening they’ll be hearing how the Spartans men’s team has been going since forming in 1998.

Spartans player and PR Spokesperson, Gareth Longley told Under the Rainbow how they’ve been playing recently.

Feb 2015 - Village Spartans Women's Team

The England women’s rugby team won the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2014. This year, one men’s team is taking the opportunity to create a new women’s side.

The Village Spartans are a rugby team for gay and bisexual men. They were formed in 1998, and they regularly train at their grounds in Sale.

Now the Spartans are planning to set up a team for women. They’ll have a taster session at the end of next week, where women can give rugby a try – regardless of whether they’ve played before.

Under the Rainbow has been speaking to Spartans player and their PR Spokesperson, Gareth Longley.
